What material in your polo is best for work and play?

First up, everyone is different, most people like cotton in the office and polyester moisture wicking polos for sporting events.  Some people do not like the polyester feeling on their skin and some people love it so always going to be a hard call.  You cannot keep everyone happy, but there are many polos that have a mix of both and then you satisfy everyone most of the time!

How do you decide on the best fabric to suit the needs of your staff and what they are required for?

Below are the differences between 100% cotton, 100% polyester and a poly/cotton blend fabric to give you an understanding on the different options that are available.

Cotton:

Cotton is a natural fibre. It is soft and comfortable and sits well on the body. This is mainly due to its non-abrasive fibres and absorbency properties. Great for people with sensitive skin. Moisture absorbed by the cotton acts as a cooling agent to assist in keeping a person cooler when wearing it and sweating.  Cotton polos cannot be just thrown in the wash and wear again next time, these need to be cared for like a business shirt and ironed for use.  They can shrink slightly and fade over time if not cared for.

Cotton absorbs sweat.

Polyester:

Polyester is a synthetic fibre. It is strong, lightweight, will not shrink or crease. Garments will hold their shape and will not fade. It is also a more cost-effective fibre than your natural fibres.

Another advantage is its moisture wicking abilities. Polyester fibres lift moisture away from your skin to the top of the fabric which enables the fabric to dry quickly. Sportswear clothing is usually made from 100% polyester solely because of the moisture wicking properties.

Polyester repels sweat.

Polyester/Cotton mix:

Poly/cotton is a blend of natural cotton and synthetic polyester.

Poly/cotton fabrics combine the advantages of polyester and cotton creating a durable, more affordable, and shrink resistant garment with good absorption qualities. Poly/cotton blends have more breathability than 100% polyester and crease less than 100% cotton, resulting in a fabric with more ease of wear and care. Poly/cotton polo shirts are a popular choice for uniforms as they will wash and wear better and have a longer life of the garment.

Poly/Cotton blend garments are a great choice for those who are split between the comfort of cotton and the ease of polyester.

This is the best of both worlds for corporate clothing.  100% cotton – great for leisure, Polyester – great for sporting events and a mix of both is great for everyday wear in the office that will show off your logo longer!
